Garden Fountains Enhance The Appeal Of Your Garden | | Home ...

Decorative garden fountains have grown in reputation over the years due to their many beneficial properties. The gentle flow of running water can be quite therapeutic, by relaxing the entire body and helping to lessen stress after a busy day. They could also help to mask bothersome noises that could intrude in a peaceful setting and assist in the revitalization of indoor plants by escalating humidity in the room. Garden fountains are also very popular in feng shui, as water is believed to transport positive energy. Indoors or out, garden fountains can make great points of interest and are available in various designs and colors to compliment every room decor and/or garden design.

?

?

Garden fountains can be purchased in tabletop, wall-mounted or freestanding designs in a variety of materials that is included in stone, marble, metal and fiberglass. Many of these have halogen bulbs to boost their effect, along with the beneficial addition of controls to regulate the flow of water. Some garden fountains function purely on solar that get rid of the need for electrical cables, and some also have built in ?foggers? to produce a little magic and mystery to the realm of contemporary fountains. Prices may differ greatly in a few dollars to a few thousand dollars, depending on size and craftsmanship. If you want something really individual, you can always build your own garden fountains by using a suitable outdoor or indoor container, a few pebbles, some plants and a pump.

?

?

Deciding what to buy will depend greatly in the design of your home and available space, as wall-mounted and tabletop designs will obviously occupy not as much area than freestanding varieties. Modern homes will match vertical, sphere or wall mounted fountains that make good use of straight and curved designs, in stainless steel, glass, or copper. Fashionable stone with a smooth finish may also enhance the fashionable dwelling and can be as chic as well as costly as you wish. The older property will certainly match a lot more sculptured styles having animals, mythical figures, urns, or tiers that enable water to cascade down in one level to the other. Most garden fountains are usually easy to put up and often can be found in complete kits but, if uncertain, you could always get someone to do the installation right for you.

?

?

Choosing the best garden fountains for your home may take some time and could require a visit to your local garden center, checking out a specialist dealer, or a thorough online search. You can think that wall-mounted varieties are really a safer option with young children and/or pets in their home, or maybe you may decide that large garden fountains next to your home is the perfect choice to greet anybody who comes to visit.

?

?

For those who like to build your very own garden exclusive as well as unique, there are plenty of ideas that you could add to do this; however garden fountains are among the best. Excellent garden fountains could improve the wonder of your garden as well as increase the amount of magnificence to your residence.

The Dark Meadow dev releasing action game 'Horn' with Zynga ...

Phosphor Games, developer of the atmospheric The Dark Meadow, will launch its new game Horn with Zynga as publisher. Horn is a third-person action game that at first glance draws some inspiration from Team Ico games, but is said to be loosely based on the "Old English tales of King Horn."

Horn has been announced for iOS, but don't be surprised to see it make its way to other mobile platforms in time (it was just showcased on Google's Nexus 7 tablet today during a press conference). Play time is pegged at 10 hours, and will be paired with a soundtrack by Journey's Austin Wintory. There is currently neither a release date nor price.

PFT: Jones-Drew thinks rushing mark 'doable'

Jeff Pash, Greg AielloAP

As Commissioner Roger Goodell continues to deliberate the final rulings in the bounty suspension appeals, the league over which he presides continues to declare the players? guilt.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Tuesday, via the Associated Press, that the evidence is ?overwhelming.?

?The investigation was thorough and includes statements from multiple sources with firsthand knowledge about the details of the program, corroborating documentation and other evidence,? Aiello said.? ?The enforcement of the bounty rule is important to protect players that are put at risk by this kind of scheme.?

Aiello?s comments come on the same day that Saints quarterback Drew Brees is questioning via an all-day media blitz the quality of the league?s case, and four days after NFL general counsel Jeff Pash touted the ?mosaic? of evidence that was presented during the June 18 appeal hearings.

?Certainly, Drew Brees would not want to be the target in a bounty scheme and that is why we must eliminate bounties from football,? Aiello said.

Given the league?s views, the appeals should have been denied by now.? As Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma said Monday, ?What?s this guy waiting on?? Make your ruling so we can get on with phase 2 already.?

Also, the dueling soundbites from the league and Brees further illustrate that, ultimately, the bounty case has become an exercise in semantics.? No players were paid to injure other players.? Instead, the Saints created a system for financially rewarding players who in the normal course of delivering big, clean, legal hits rendered an opponent unable to play in all or part of the remainder of the game.? Though that?s one of the realities of a game in which success is premised partially on attrition, the league believes that creating that kind of incentive could lead to deliberate attempts to injure, whether through legal hits or through illegal hits.

The players believe the NFL has tried to suggest that the Saints were doing something far more sinister than the jobs they?re already paid to do (i.e., hit the other guy as hard as you can, cleanly and legally).? The NFL believes that, regardless of the language used to describe it, the concept of offering players money for rendering opponents unable to continue to play is inherently sinister, and thus unacceptable.

Regardless of how it all plays out, Aiello?s comments make clear that there?s no reason to further delay the rulings on the appeals.? Phase One clearly is over; it?s time to get on with Phase Two.

LastPass 2.0 Premium

Getting something for nothing is great, but getting a lot for hardly anything is also pretty darn good. LastPass 2.0 Premium ($12 per year) costs less than a martini at a Manhattan bar. It offers all the amazing password management features of the free version of LastPass plus impressive additions to mobile security and multifactor authentication.

Shared Features
Do read my review of LastPass 2.0 (free, 5 stars) for full details on this program's amazing capabilities. It does virtually everything that any of its competitors can do, and then goes further, much further. I'll summarize here, briefly.

Naturally LastPass handles capturing and playing back website login credentials. It's also very good at detecting password changes and new secure site signups. Its user interaction is very unobtrusive, and it successfully captures credentials from oddball login pages that throw the competition for a loop.

LastPass can store one or more profiles of personal information and one or more credit cards. When you go to fill a Web form you can mix and match, choosing whichever profile and whichever credit card you like. The identities feature lets you filter which passwords and profiles are visible, so, for example, you can enable a subset of your data at work.

Your encrypted data is stored online, so you can access it from any connected computer. In addition to passwords and personal data, LastPass will store secure notes. These can be formatted for specific data types such as driver's licenses and passports, and now can include attachments. Users of the free edition can store 50MB of files; upgrading to premium raises that to 1GB.

The free edition includes several varieties of multifactor authentication, to secure your LastPass data more strongly than even a strong password can. It also includes free credit monitoring.

Full Functionality with No Plug-in
It's true that you can log into your LastPass Vault from any connected computer, but if you don't have the LastPass plugin installed it can't automatically fill your saved logins or capture new ones. The free edition offers bookmarklets for this situatoin, tiny JavaScript programs contained in a URL, but some may find using them a bit awkward.

Enter IEAnywhere, a premium-only feature that lets you use LastPass without installing a plugin. Once you download and run the program you'll find a LastPass icon in the system tray. Click it to log in. You now have a full LastPass menu, including your tree of saved logins, that's rooted at the system tray instead of in a browser button.

IEAnywhere also puts a tiny icon in one corner of the Internet Explorer window. From this icon's menu you can choose to fill in passwords or Web forms, generate secure passwords, and more. It's a nice solution for occasions when you want to use LastPass but don't have the permissions needed to actually install the plug-in.

Depression, anxiety raise risk of stroke death; Protein greatly increases risk of slow growing fetus, small baby; Smoking rates drop but heavy drinking rates rise in Canada

(June 24, 2012 - Insidermedicine) From London - Depression and anxiety raise risk of dying from stroke, according to a report published in CMAJ. Researchers analyzed data on nearly 70,000 adult men and women over an 8 year period, and found that psychological distress was strongly associated with risk of death from stroke.

From Ottawa - Research published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism identifies a protein that may help predict which women will have dangerously small babies. Researchers studied 72 pregnant women, half who gave birth to dangerously small babies and half who had normal weight babies. They found that women with high levels of the protein IGFBP-4 in the first trimester were 22x more likely to give birth to a dangerously small baby.

From Ottawa - Canada's smoking rates have decline, but heavy drinking has increased, according to a report released by Statistics Canada. From 2001 to 2011, researchers found that smoking rates among men declined by 5%, while rates among women declined by 6%. Rates of heavy drinking however, rose from 17% in 2001 to 19% in 2012.

Jerry Sandusky guilty

BELLEFONTE, Pa. ? Jerry Sandusky was found guilty Friday night on 45 of 48 counts of child sexual molestation and faces up to 442 years in prison.

A jury of Sandusky's Centre County, Pa., neighbors determined that the former Penn State defensive coordinator sexually abused children over a 15-year period, using his stature as a local coaching hero and his position with the Second Mile charity to target and then violate at-risk kids from the area. The jury deliberated for about 20 hours after a trial that stretched across eight days at Centre County Courthouse. The jury foreman read the counts and said "guilty" on six consecutive counts before saying "not guilty" for the first time. He read all 48 counts.

Jerry Sandusky is taken into custody after a jury found him guilty of child molestation. (Getty Images)Sandusky, wearing a brown blazer, stood motionless with his left hand in his pocket, his eyes on the jury. His wife, Dottie, and three of his adopted sons and one adopted daughter sat to his right. Matt Sandusky, their adopted son who Thursday said Jerry Sandusky had molested him, was not present.

Sandusky, who was escorted out of the courthouse in handcuffs, will be sentenced at a later date by Judge John Cleland. The precise number of years he faces in prison is unclear, but legal experts say it should be enough to lock the 68-year-old away for life.

After the counts were read, Judge John Cleland said, "Mr. Sandusky, you have been found guilty by a jury of your peers."

Victim No. 6 ? one of eight victims to testify ? and his family were in court. He put his head down and wept uncontrollably as the verdict was read. "I'm just overwhelmed," he said afterward.

When court was adjourned and word leaked out to a massive crowd on the steps of the courthouse, cheers rang out and were audible inside the courtroom.

"Jerry was prepared to go to jail tonight," defense attorney Joe Amendola said. "He understood that a verdict coming back on the second day [was an indication he would be found guilty]. With the circumstances of the situation and how the case progressed, it was inevitable."

Judge Cleland said Sandusky would be sentenced in about 90 days. Sandusky gave a quick wave to family and was taken to Centre County jail in handcuffs.

Amendola said Sandusky plans to appeal. He also said Sandusky would have testified on his own behalf had Matt Sandusky not indicated to prosecutors that he'd been abused.

"Jerry always planned to take the stand and tell his story," Amendola said. "Although Jerry and the family deny the abuse [of Matt] happened, it would have been explosive. There was no way for Jerry to testify without the prosecution being able to call Matt."

The case rocked this pristine college area when Sandusky was indicted last November. It led to the firing of iconic head football coach Joe Paterno and school president Graham Spanier. Two other university officials, athletic director Tim Curley and vice president Gary Schultz, are facing criminal charges for failure to report a crime and perjury. Paterno died of lung cancer in January at age 85.

"The Board of Trustees and current administration maintain a steadfast commitment to pursuing the truth regarding Mr. Sandusky's actions," Penn State said in a statement released following the verdict. "While we cannot change what happened, we can and do accept the responsibility to take action on the societal issue of child sexual abuse ? both in our community and beyond."

The state presented an overwhelming case against Sandusky. It was highlighted by powerful personal testimony from eight victims who detailed, often through sobs and gasps of breath, how Sandusky molested them in Penn State locker rooms, Sandusky's basement and hotel rooms.

Sandusky often used his access to Penn State facilities and the football program to lure pre-adolescents into situations where they were alone and the kids were vulnerable.

The state also used testimony from former Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary, who said he walked in on Sandusky and a boy in the locker room showers in 2001, and hearsay testimony from two Penn State janitors who said a third janitor ? now senile ? saw a similar incident in 2000.

[Related: Most of the seven women, five men on the jury had Penn State ties]

The defense acknowledged from the start it faced a considerable challenge and tried to paint Sandusky as an innocent victim of a grand conspiracy of police and financially motivated victims.

"There are lots of people sitting in jails all across this country who are innocent ? lots of people over the years who have been executed for murder and later determined to be innocent," Amendola said to jeers from the crowd gathered around the courthouse. "What this proves to me is, I believe the jury acted genuinely. I believe the jury acted in good faith. ? I don't have any problem with the jury. We had a good jury."

'Girl Thing' science video: Not a good thing

This version of the controversial "Science: It's a Girl Thing" video was posted to YouTube after the European Commission's original version was rendered inaccessible.

By Alan Boyle

Doing smackdowns on stupid online videos could be a full-time job, so it's a good thing that so many other people are willing to take on the task. What's not a good thing is the video done up for the European Commission's Women in Research and Innovation initiative, which has high-heeled models glamming it up to tout science as a "girl thing."

Not that I'm against high-heeled models, but as a teaser to highlight women in science or get girls interested in science careers, it earns a strong thumbs-down. After weathering the bad reviews on the Web and Twitter for hours and hours, the European Commission shut down access to the video and tweeted, "OK, scientists, we heard you."

The campaign in general isn't a bad thing. This quote from the Science-Girl-Thing.eu website hits the right tone:

"Want to save lives? Keen to find out what?s lurking in the nether regions of space, or in the deepest ocean trench? Passionate about the environment? Do something about it! The next great discovery could be yours, so come and take up the challenge.

"Did you know that girls do as well as boys in science and maths at school but many more boys go on to further study science, technology and engineering? So girls, remember: you?ve got what it takes.

"Science needs your ideas, your inspiration and your passion ? science needs YOU!"

It's just too bad that one video spoils the mood. Now I'm waiting for the parody video, "Science: It's a Guy Thing," which will have Chippendale male dancers strut their stuff while a bespectacled woman looks up from the microscope.

For a selection of the smackdowns, just sort through the Twitter tweets that include the #sciencegirlthing tag?? or, as a balancer, the #realwomenofscience tag. Both of those tags have risen to Twitter's list of top trenders. ?This Skepchick posting by my blogging colleague, Noisy Astronomer Nicole Gugliucci, provides a great survey of the pluses and the minuses. She includes this video that covers the positive side of the ledger. Like the awful teaser video, it's part of the "Science: It's a Girl Thing" video gallery.

This "Science: It's a Girl Thing" video focuses on University of Liege astronomer Yael Naz?.

Update for 2:15 p.m. ET: The tweets from European Commission spokesman Michael Jennings suggest that he thinks the campaign's evil plan is working: "Hope was to get young people onto site. That seems to be happening! ... Lots of comments on #sciencegirlthing vid. 45 seconds of fun for launch to grab attention. Not central to main campaign."

Update for 5:45 p.m. ET: The original teaser video has been taken down, but of course you can still find an archived version on YouTube. The Science-Girl-Thing.eu website features a different teaser trailer, and the European Commission's communication department says this in a Twitter update: "OK, scientists, we've heard you and we want to keep hearing you. Help us build a list of #realwomeninscience: https://t.co/A2LX24ym." That shortened Web address points to a list of Twitter accounts for female scientists. More than 100 women are on the list so far, and it's growing by the minute. Now, that's a good thing.

Update for 7:05 p.m. ET: Twitterers are tittering over tweets with the #scienceboything hashtag, but I'm still waiting for the "Science: It's a Guy Thing" video.

(AP) ? With Indiana hemorrhaging revenue during the Great Recession, Gov. Mitch Daniels targeted higher education to help fill the gap ? including nearly $30 million in state cuts at Purdue University.

On Thursday, trustees there unanimously approved him as the school's 12th president. Students, faculty members and legislators wondered how the governor would transition to a new job with such starkly different duties ? particularly considering he still has six months left in his old one.

Daniels said it will involve a lot of listening. The former White House budget director and Eli Lilly executive has a Princeton bachelor's degree and Georgetown law degree but virtually no experience working in academia.

"I don't even know what I don't know yet. All I know is there's a lot I don't know," he told about 100 students at an afternoon gathering on campus.

Besides segueing from budget hawk to higher-ed advocate, the change for Daniels also will be extreme in the world of politics. The outspoken conservative was once considered such a rising star that many Republicans encouraged him to seek the presidency ? or at least make himself available as a potential running mate or Cabinet choice for presumptive nominee Mitt Romney.

He said his appointment means he won't be involved in partisan politics after making one last out-of-state appearance this weekend.

"No campaigning, no commenting about anybody's campaigning ? in the state or out state or anywhere else ? no fundraising, nothing. I won't be a delegate to the national convention," he said.

Daniels, 63, will take office in January once his second term as governor expires.

That sudden withdrawal from the political spotlight is a sharp change for Daniels, who has written op-ed pieces, spoken on Republican causes to gatherings of conservatives, been a fixture on Sunday morning news shows and delivered the GOP's response to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address this year.

The stance is one of necessity. University presidents need to be able to unite, not divide, said Robert Bontempo, who teaches executive education at the Columbia Business School in New York.

"You can't give people orders and tell them what to do," he said. "You have to lead by consensus, because they have lifetime jobs."

Bontempo said politicians tend to make the transition to university leadership more successfully than private sector executives. He cited Bob Kerrey, a former governor and two-term senator from Nebraska who is running for the Senate again after 10 years as president of the New School for Social Research in New York City.

Since 2009, Daniels has ordered more than $150 million in cuts to public education ? about one-fifth of that to Purdue. Adam Hoover, a 2008 Purdue graduate who is organizing a public protest over Daniels' selection, said he thinks Daniels is hostile to the cause.

"It's disturbing that one man could both cut the budget of a public university and control the exact impact of those cuts," Hoover said in an email to The Associated Press.

The university also came under fire from state lawmakers over its tuition increases at the height of the recession. Purdue's in-state tuition rates have risen by as much as 62 percent since 2004, according to figures provided by the university.

As governor, Daniels approved a new right to work law that angered unions and signed off on a law that would cut most public funding to Planned Parenthood because it provides abortions. He also pushed through the nation's largest school voucher program, drawing fire from critics who said using taxpayer money so students could to attend private schools violated the constitutional separation of church and state.

"I don't think he has a proven track record in terms of being able to get the job done and doing things the right way," said Tim Neuhaus, 28, of Baltimore, Md., who graduated from Purdue in 2010 with a bachelor of science degree and works as a project engineer for a commercial construction company.

Mindy Anderson, 33, who is seeking a doctorate in pharmacy and teaches veterinary classes at Purdue, said she thought Daniels was a great choice because of his leadership skills. She said she wasn't concerned that he had cut higher education spending in the past.

"He didn't do it irresponsibly. I think he did his homework and got the information he needed and did what he needed for the financial health of the state," she said.

Daniels won't be in a position to decide on allocations to Purdue during the remainder of his term as governor because the Legislature does not reconvene until January.

But Rep. Scott Pelath, D-Michigan City and a member of the budget-writing Ways and Means Committee, questioned whether Purdue would be treated more favorably than other state-supported universities when the Republican-dominated General Assembly is making appropriations.

"What do the folks in the inner sanctum of Indiana University or Ball State University have to say? Do they think they're going to be treated the same way?" Pelath said. "It would be foolish not to look down the road and consider the possible implications."

Daniels will have to win over faculty and students who question whether having him appointed by a board he largely appointed poses a conflict of interest. Some also are leery of his lack of academic experience and his reputation for shaking up the status quo.

Morris Levy, a biological sciences professor who just completed a term as University Senate chairman on June 1, said some faculty worried that Daniels might lower the school's academic standards. He pointed to the governor's support of the Legislature's recent decision to limit the number of college credits state university students need to earn a degree.

"The intrusion of politics into the academy is something everyone ought to be wary of," Levy said. "But he does bring enormous skills to the job we haven't previously had."

Purdue officials said they anticipated some negative reaction to Daniels' selection but said support was overwhelmingly in favor of his appointment to succeed France Cordova, who will step down in July after five years at Purdue's helm.

"He's a visionary. He's a strategist. He's an innovator. But most of all, he's a doer," said Trustees President Keith Karch.

Moody's tilts playing field towards safe haven banks

LONDON (Reuters) - Downgrades by ratings agency Moody's will make funding more expensive for banks that rely the most on capital markets, while reinforcing the competitive advantage of "safe haven" banks that can fund themselves from stable customer deposits.

Stock markets took Moody's announcement that it had downgraded 15 of the world's biggest banks in their stride, as the rating agency's lowering by up to three notches had been widely anticipated.

European bank shares were up by 0.2 percent by 1130 EDT on Friday, while the KBW index of U.S. banks was up by 1.0 percent.

But over the medium term, the downgrades will reinforce a trend that has seen weaker banks punished for their risk taking, while stronger banks are rewarded for conservative funding models, ensuring lower costs and higher margins.

Not only will funding costs rise for the worst-rated banks, but trading partners are bound to ask for more collateral - and steer business to those perceived to be financially stronger.

"These downgrades will increase the cost of doing business for banks, either through reduced, or more costly, access to funding or the need to lodge extra collateral with creditors," said Daiwa Capital Markets analyst Michael Symonds

Moody's gave the highest ratings to HSBC, Royal Bank of Canada and JP Morgan, which it said had stronger buffers than peers.

All three are regarded as safe haven banks, funded by deposits from millions of retail customers and relying less than riskier banks on capital markets for short term financing.

Moody's gave the lowest credit ratings to banks that have been affected by problems with their risk management or whose capital buffers are not as strong as rivals.

Those include banks like Morgan Stanley with few retail deposits, as well as banks like Bank of America, Citigroup and Royal Bank of Scotland, which despite having big deposit bases have gotten into trouble by combining their retail business with riskier investment banking.

Moody's placed Barclays, BNP Paribas, Credit Agricole, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Societe Generale and UBS in a middle group of banks, which it said include firms that rely on unpredictable capital markets revenues to meet shareholder expectations.

For banks which rely heavily on markets for funding, the lower ratings make difficult conditions even worse, at a time when they are suffering because of the euro zone crisis and a global slowdown in growth.

"Markets tend to discriminate more between issuers at lower ratings - in terms of funding costs - particularly during times of stress," said analysts from Citigroup.

The downgrades reflected a view on capital markets that was "something more structural and fundamental rather than what is just cyclical noise", Johannes Wassenberg, Moody's managing director of European banks, told Reuters.

"We tried to assess risk from capital markets... and the shock absorbers banks have," Wassenberg said.

Regulators have told investment banks to keep far higher capital buffers, making their business less profitable, while also taking a knife to some of their most lucrative businesses, such as trading for their own account.

The sector has been left with significant overcapacity, reports from consultancy firms have said, meaning the battle for the favors of clients can only intensify.

RISK MANAGEMENT

The ratings agency looked at the banks where exposures to capital markets were the most pronounced, picking firms by the share of revenue generated by fees from debt and equity advisory, trading revenues and trading inventories.

Analysts say banks that will be most affected by funding costs rising as a result of the downgrades are those that were most likely to have to put more collateral on the table.

"Most directly, there are contractual provisions in agreements that would require a firm to post additional collateral, or to replace itself as the counterparty to transactions," said analysts at Execution Noble, part of Espirito Santo Investment Bank.

Moody's said some of the lowest rated banks had undertaken considerable changes to their risk management models and were implementing business strategy changes intended to increase earnings from more stable activities such as retail banking. However, it said these transformations are ongoing and their success has yet to be tested.

Moody's said it had taken into account management action at firms like UBS, where it listed the bank's reduced ambition in investment banking as a positive factor.

The downgrades had been widely anticipated having been flagged by Moody's in February and the initial market reaction across Europe was muted.

Daiwa Capital Markets' Symonds said the cuts could have been worse and the conclusion of the review removed an uncertainty from the market. However, he warned there could be more downgrades to come.

"The next round of downgrades may be just around the corner given the myriad challenges still weighing on the sector, including the far-from-resolved euro area crisis and imminent legislation on bail ins and resolution regimes," he said.

Dancers Tough It Out On 'So You Think You Can Dance'

Dancers brave a week of grueling callback auditions as 'SYTYCD' narrows down the field in Las Vegas.

While every dancer might think they have the moves, not everyone can make it to the top 20 on the dance-competition series "So You Think You Can Dance." The path to that coveted spot requires a pass through the grueling callback auditions in Vegas, the first of which was underway on Wednesday night's episode.

Hundreds of dancers pushed, pulled and injured their way into and out of the show, as they endured a week of intense choreography that tested their skills in all the major styles of dance featured on "SYTYCD."

The week began with solos, graduated to group routines and culminated with 35 dancers making it to the final week before the top 20 announcement. Some had to "dance for their lives" in an attempt to win the judge's hearts, all of whom came out to scrutinize the lot. Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, Tyce Diorio, Debbie Allen, Adam Shankman and Lil' C were on hand to make the tough decisions, along with the day's choreographers.

Day 1
Solos and hip-hop set up the first day, though it also brought a large amount of cuts, including Gen Lonardo a.k.a. the human praying mantis, as well as an early favorite, exorcist dancer Hampton Williams, who chose to bow out gracefully after succumbing to the challenges of the choreography. Unfortunately, a couple of the Dragon House dancers also failed to impress the judges.

Day 2
Tyce Diorio and Sonya Tayeh led day two with Broadway and jazz, respectively. "This routine, honestly, is so hard," Diorio confessed to the cameras, as the dance styles not only require precision and texture, but strength and a lot of performance. Burlesque jazz dancer Rachel Applehans was eliminated, with judge Debbie Allen commenting, "Your whole appeal is just sex." Although silent dancer Amelia Lowe had to dance for her life, she prevailed at the end, moving forward another day.

Day 3
The dreaded group routines were assigned to the remaining dancers on day three, with a little twist: The dancers could choose their own groups. Injured dancer and bacon lover Danielle Dominquez found herself unable to cope with her group's routine, as she just returned from the hospital after suffering a blow to the head in a performance. Unfortunately, the judges had no sympathy, and Danielle was sent home, as were several other dancers. But Alexa Anderson, eliminated at the last stage of the season eight Vegas auditions, got more than she bargained for when the judges, yet again, criticized the stellar dancer for her lack of passion. It seems their harsh words hit a nerve with Anderson, who finally cried and released some real emotion, the sole reason for her moving forward.

Day 4
Ballroom has always been the most challenging style on the show, requiring specific postures and intricate footwork. Day four was led by choreographer Jason Gilkison, whose cha cha routine asked for chemistry between partners and led to the demise of country hip-hopper Asher Walker. The lone remaining Dragon House member, Cyrus "Glitch" Spencer, was asked to dance for his life, and thankfully received a unanimous "yes" to stay for the final round of auditions.

Day 5
Finally, after four intense days and only a couple hours of sleep a night, 52 remaining dancers were put through their toughest challenge of contemporary dance, choreographed by "SYTYCD" season two runner-up and show favorite Travis Wall. As the remaining dancers supported each other through this final stage, another 17 dancers' dreams came to an end, including season seven's Adrian Lee, whom Mary Murphy cut at a personal visit to his home.

The first week of the Vegas callbacks were finally over, and most just didn't make the cut. Some of the ones who did included: season eight's Alexa Anderson, belly dancer Janelle Issis, Cyrus "Glitch" Spencer, Joshua Alexander, ballet dancer Chehon Wespi-Tschopp and silent dancer Amelia Lowe.

The grind isn't over for them and the rest of the pack: One final week of Sin City auditions remain as the dancers battle it out for the mere 20 spots on "So You Think You Can Dance."
