Eruptive events on the sun can be wildly different. Some come just with a solar flare, some with an additional ejection of solar material called a coronal mass ejection (CME), and some with complex moving structures in association with changes in magnetic field lines that loop up into the sun's atmosphere, the corona.

On July 19, 2012, an eruption occurred on the sun that produced all three. A moderately powerful solar flare exploded on the sun's lower right limb, sending out light and radiation. Next came a CME, which shot off to the right out into space. And then, the sun treated viewers to one of its dazzling magnetic displays a phenomenon known as coronal rain.

Over the course of the next day, hot plasma in the corona cooled and condensed along strong magnetic fields in the region. Magnetic fields, themselves, are invisible, but the charged plasma is forced to move along the lines, showing up brightly in the extreme ultraviolet wavelength of 304 Angstroms, which highlights material at a temperature of about 50,000 Kelvin. This plasma acts as a tracer, helping scientists watch the dance of magnetic fields on the sun, outlining the fields as it slowly falls back to the solar surface.

The footage in this video was collected by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory's Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) instrument. SDO collected one frame every 12 seconds, and the movie plays at 30 frames per second, so each second in this video corresponds to six minutes of real time. The video covers 12:30 a.m. EDT to 10:00 p.m. EDT on July 19, 2012.

iOS 6.1.2 jailbreak set to be released later today

MARANA, Arizona, Feb 19 (Reuters) - Steve Stricker and Jim Furyk joined a growing chorus of players backing the idea of the PGA Tour adopting a local rule to ignore a proposed ban on putters anchored to the body on Tuesday. American Stricker, widely regarded as one of the game's best putters, said he had changed his view after consistently opposing the use of long putters and that he would not be surprised to see the tour dig in its heels. ...

10-Year-Old Florida Boy Found Drunk and Naked After Mother Gives him Brandy

A 10-year-old boy in Florida was found drunk and naked in his neighborhood after his mother gave him a bottle of brandy to drink.

Neighbor Amanda Roesch found the boy and brought him back to his mother?s.

?He couldn?t even stand,? Roesch said. ?He was just, you know, naked and I?m like, ?Come in the house, baby,? - and I went and got some of my son?s clothes.?

When the boy began talking, he told her that his mother had a drinking problem.

?This little boy, he said, ?All I want for my mommy is to go to rehab and to get anger management because mommy drinks to feel better cause she?s mad,?? Roesch said. ?He?s 10. Really? He had to take care of mom. How do you not know your child is naked drunk and missing, wandering down a dark road in the cold? I just don?t understand.?

?He was so drunk that he didn?t realize he had no clothes on.?

Authorities said his mother, Nedra Byrd, was drunk and passed out on the couch when they arrived. She said she thought her son was inside his room and told officers she was ?drunk as hell.?

While it is unclear whether Byrd is the boy?s actual mother, he was under her care and he referred to her as his mom.

Byrd was arrested and charged with one count of child abuse.

They discovered a half-empty bottle of Christian Brother?s brandy that the boy said Byrd gave him. He said he had also tried alcohol before.

He was examined at a hospital where doctors did a blood alcohol test.

?They went ahead and did a blood alcohol which came out to .108, which in an adult would be considered impaired driving at .08,? sheriff?s office spokeswoman Denise Moloney said.

The boy is now in the custody of Florida Department of Children and Families.

Byrd was released Friday on $1,000 bond.

Novartis chairman foregoes $78 million payout

(AP) ? Swiss drugmaker Novartis AG has agreed with its outgoing chairman to scrap plans for a farewell non-compete deal that could have netted him up to 72 million francs ($78 million).

The announcement followed criticism from some of the Basel-based company's shareholders and Swiss politicians.

Daniel Vasella, 59, who is retiring later this month, said Tuesday that he and the company had agreed to forgo a "non-compete" pay-out that many people found "unreasonably high."

"I have understood that many people in Switzerland find the amount of the compensation linked to the non-compete agreement unreasonably high, despite the fact I had announced my intention to make the net amount available for philanthropic activities," Vasella said in a statement.

News of the deal, under which Vasella would have earned up to 12 million francs a year for six years ? almost the equivalent of his current basic salary ? for not advising Novartis' competitors over the coming years, emerged last week. It was immediately met with a scathing response in Switzerland, where executive pay has become a sensitive issue recently.

The country holds a referendum March 3 on a proposal to give shareholders a greater say on how much companies pay top executives. It would also ban "golden parachutes" ? an agreement between a company and senior executive which gives the manager certain benefits if their employment ends.

According to Novartis' 2012 annual report, Vasella's contract as chairman gave him a fixed salary of 12.4 million francs, a figure that it said reflects his "exceptional experience" and contribution to building the company.

Novartis said in the report that Vasella "carries forward tradable options, shares and benefits (including pension)" from his time as chief executive. It didn't put a figure on that.

Among the critics of Vasella's deal were the company's shareholders and Justice Minister Simonetta Sommaruga, the head of the Swiss Bishops' Conference, and even the most business-friendly of Switzerland's governing parties, the Free Democrats.

Novartis said that granting the payout to Vasella, its chairman since 1999, had been intended to protect the company. It noted that he knows its business "intimately," built its research and development organization and personally recruited most of the top executives.

"We continue to believe in the value of a non-compete," vice chairman Ulrich Lehner said in a statement. But he added that the decision to drop the deal "addresses the concerns of shareholders and other stakeholders."

Ahead of the March referendum, a survey conducted mid-January by the polling group gfs.bern found 65 percent of voters would back tightening rules on pay, with 25 percent against and 10 percent undecided. The survey questioned 1,217 people and had a margin of error of 2.9 percent, gfs.bern said.

QUICK HITS
? Head coach Augie Garrido needs two wins for his 700th win during his 17-year tenure at Texas.
? Texas has a 54-17 all-time record against UT Arlington, but the Mavericks have won three of the last seven games in the series. UTA beat Texas, 7-5, on Feb. 21 last season at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
? The Longhorns won their opening season series last weekend against Sacramento State for the third straight year.
? Texas batted .347 as a team during the Sacramento State series with a .417 on-base percentage. Five players in the lineup batted .300 or higher (Mark Payton, C.J Hinojosa, Taylor Stell, Matt Moynihan and Weston Hall).
? Texas stole seven bases during the Sacramento State series (2.33 per game) while the 2012 Longhorns stole 58 bases for the entire season (1.12 per game).
? Parker French and Dillon Peters both threw seven innings during the Sacramento State series. It was the first time that two Texas pitchers have thrown seven or more innings in the same three-game series since May 6-7, 2011, when Taylor Jungmann and Cole Green each threw eight innings at Nebraska.
? With an average attendance of 5,694 last weekend in the season-opening series against Sacramento State at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, Texas ranked sixth in the nation. ? The top three hitters from last year's team returns for the 2013 season: Erich Weiss (.350), Mark Payton (.322) and Jacob Felts (.282).
? Four pitchers with a combined 34 starts from last year return in 2013: Nathan Thornhill (11), Dillon Peters (11), Parker French (nine) and Corey Knebel (three). John Curtiss, who recorded four starts, is out for the 2013 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
? 28 out of 35 players were named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in the fall 2012 semester for earning a 3.0 grade-point-average or higher.
? Head coach Augie Garrido needs 44 wins (1,849) to tie Gordon Gillespie for the most wins (1,893) by any college baseball coach at any level.
? Since 2002, Texas is 10-2 in season openers and has won six straight openers (Texas defeated Sacramento State, 6-5, last Friday).
? Texas has not lost a home opener at UFCU Disch-Falk Field since 2003 (5-0 loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi). The Longhorns did lose its opener in 2007 against San Diego, but the game was played at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
? This season marks the 30th anniversary of the 1983 national championship team. ? The Longhorns have five left-handers on their pitching staff (Dillon Peters, Kirby Bellow, Travis Duke, Toller Boardman and Ty Culbreth).

Maine?s Governor Paul LePage for President!

?

In case you haven?t heard about this guy before, his name will stick in your mind!

The new Maine Governor, Paul LePage is making New Jersey ?s Chris Christie look like an enabler.

He isn?t afraid to say what he thinks. Judging by the comments, every time he opens his mouth, his popularity goes up.

He brought down the house at his inauguration when he shook his fist toward the media box and said, ?You?re on notice! I?ve inherited a financially troubled State to run. Observe?cover what we do?but don?t whine if I don?t waste time responding to your every whim just for your amusement.?

During his campaign for Governor, he was talking to commercial fishermen who are struggling because of federal fisheries rules. They complained that 0bama brought his family to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park for a long Labor Day holiday and found time to meet with union leaders, but wouldn?t talk to the fishermen.

LePage replied, ?I?d tell him to go to hell and get out of my State.? The Lame Stream Media crucified LePage, but he jumped 6 points in the pre-election poll.

The Martin Luther King incident was a political sandbag, which brought him National exposure.

The ?lame stream? media crucified him, but word on the street is very positive.

The NAACP specifically asked LePage to spend MLK Day visiting black inmates at the Maine State Prison. He told them that he would meet with ALL inmates, regardless of race, if he were to visit the prison. The NAACP balked and then put out a news release claiming falsely that he refused to participate in any MLK events. He read it in the paper for the 1st time the next morning while being driven to an event and went ballistic because none of the reporters had called him for comment before running the NAACP release.

He arrived at that event & said in front of a TV camera, ?If they want to play the race card on me they can kiss my ass?, and he reminded them that he has an adopted black son from Jamaica and that he attended the local MLK Breakfast every year that he was mayor of Waterville. (He started his morning there on MLK Day.)

He then stated that there?s a right way and a wrong way to meet with the Governor, and he put all special interests on notice that press releases, media leaks, and all demonstrations would prove to be the wrong way. He said any other group, which acted like the NAACP could expect to be at the bottom of the Governor?s priority list!

He then did the following, and judging from local radio talk show callers, his popularity increased even more:

The State employees union complained because he waited until 3 P.M. before closing State offices and facilities and sending non-emergency personnel home during the last blizzard.

The prior Governor would often close offices for the day with just a forecast before the first flakes. (Each time the State closes for snow, it costs the taxpayers about $1 million in wages for no work in return.)

LePage was CEO of the Marden?s chain of discount family bargain retail stores before election as governor. He noted that State employees getting off work early could still find lots of retail stores open to shop. So, he put the State employees on notice by announcing: ?If Marden?s is open, Maine is open!?

He told State employees: ?We live in Maine in the winter, for heaven?s sake, and should know how to drive in it. Otherwise, apply for a State job in Florida !?

Governor LePage symbolizes what America needs; Refreshing politicians who aren?t self-serving and who exhibit common sense.

Governor LaPage said, ?THE LAW IS THE LAW So ?if? the US government determines that it is against the law for the words ?under God? to be on our money, then, so be it.

And ?if? that same government decides that the ?Ten Commandments? are not to be used in or on a government installation, then, so be it.

I say, ?so be it,? because I would like to be a law abiding US citizen

I say, ?so be it,? because I would like to think that smarter people than I are in positions to make good decisions.

I would like to think that those people have the American public?s best interests at heart.
BUT, he said, ?YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE I?D LIKE?

Since we can?t pray to God, can?t Trust in God and cannot post His Commandments in Government buildings, I don?t believe Government (Federal, State and Local) and its employees should participate in Easter and Christmas celebrations which honor the God that our government is eliminating from many facets of American life.

I?d like my mail delivered on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter. After all, it?s just another day.

I?d like the? US Supreme Court to be in session on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter as well as Sundays.? After all, it?s just another day.

I?d like the Senate and the House of Representatives to not have to worry about getting home for the ?Christmas Break.? After all it?s just another day.

I?m thinking a lot of my taxpayer dollars could be saved, if all government offices & services would work on Christmas, Good Friday & Easter. It shouldn?t cost any overtime since those would be just like any other day of the week to a government that is trying to be ?politically correct.?

In fact?.I think our government should work on Sundays (initially set aside for worshipping God?.) because, after all, our government says that it should be just another day?.?

What do you all think? If this idea gets to enough people, maybe our elected officials will stop giving in to the ?minority opinions? and begin, once again, to represent the ?majority? of ALL of the American people.??

Bald Eagles, another species
